Quest’anno la nostra classe , la seconda liceo scientifico; grazie al progetto Intercultura,ospita per due mesi un ragazzo australiano. Con questa intervista cerchiamo di capire chi è le sue abitudini a casa e a scuola e soprattutto le differenze tra il nostro modo di vivere e il suo.
Claudia: Welcome Duane to our school shall I ask you some questions about yourself ?
Duane: Sure
Anna: What’s your name?
Duane :My name’s Duane Cox
Luisa: How old are you?
Duane :I’m 15
Guendalina: Where are you from?
Duane :I’m from Melbourne in Australia.
Irene Where do you live?
Duane :I live in a small house with a big bush block…with Kangaroo’s.
Cristina: How many brothers have you got?
Duane :I’ve got two brothers and a sister, they’re older than me .Ryan who is 22 is a builder, Kym who is 19 is an apprentice electrician and my sister Celeste just finished school, she will be doing further study in arts.
Simona: What is your parents’ job?
Duane: My mother and stepfather (Linda and Steve) have a home business in the field of information technology. My father (Gary) has just started a new job sharing a manufacturing business with his friend…on weekends I help him build things to earn some extra money.
Serena: Why did you choose Italy?
Duane : I chose Italy because my grandpa is from Brindisi so I wanted to see what Italy is like.
Roberta: How was the journey?
Duane: It was very long and at times very boring…I spent about 24 hours in the plane…sometimes there were good movies to watch. I left Melbourne at 5:00pm on the 1st of December and flew to Singapore, from there I flew to Paris then from Paris to Rome. I stayed one night in a hotel in Rome with the other A.F.S students. The next day I went back to Rome airport ready to fly to Olbia. I arrived in Olbia at 4:00 on the 3rd of December where I met Anna , her family and Guendalina and I arrived in Esporlatu at 6.00 pm.
Laura: Did you have jetlag?
Duane: No I don’t think so.
Maria Grazia: Do you like Italian food?
Duane :I like some of it but not all…I love pasta and pizza
Simona: Do you like being in our school?
Duane :Yes, it’s good, the people are really nice and have made me feel very welcome.
Roberta: What’s the difference between Australian and Italian schools?
Duane :Australian schools are bigger and have more people. We have longer days (6 hours) but less homework, and we don’t go to school on Saturday. My Australian school is more modern than this one. For example every room has computers. The school is constantly being upgraded.
Maria: What subjects do you study at school?
Duane :This year at Eltham High School I studied English, Maths, Science, History, Metal Technology, Physical Education, Sports Medicine, Legal Studies, Sports Physiology and Fitness Training, Learning to lead and Forensic Science.
Giuseppe: What is your favourite subject in Italy and in Australia?
Duane: Sport and Sport.
Giovanni: What kind of relations do you have with your teachers?
The teachers are like friends…most of them. We joke around and have fun with each other.
Cristina: Do you like your life in Italy?
Duane :Yes it’s very interesting…Esporlatu is a lot smaller than I’m used to…but everyone knows everyone so I have already met the whole village.
Claudia: Is your daily routine different from your daily routine here?
Duane: I usually get up at 7:00 in Australia but earlier if I ride to school. In Italy I get up at about the same time. In Australia I eat lunch at school but here I eat at home. The evenings here and in Australia are about the same…but sometimes I meet my friends after school in Australia.
Francesco: Did you receive a good welcome in Italy?
Duane :Yes, although it was hard to understand what people were saying.
Raimondo: Are Italian girls different from Australian girls?
Duane: Italian girls all have similar coloured hair, Australian girls have different coloured hair. On average Australian girls are a bit taller. Australian girls drink more alcohol.
Anna: What do you usually eat during the day in Australia?
Duane :For breakfast I usually eat cereal or toast and sometimes a drink of juice.
For lunch I eat sandwiches and snack on other foods.
For dinner I eat all sorts of thing but my favourite is pasta or steak.
I hate fish.
Maria Grazia: Is the Italian climate different from the Australian climate?
Duane: Not really but they are in opposite seasons.
Marta: What are your hobbies?
Duane :Australian Rules Football, going out with friends and playing almost any sport.
